I grew up in Jersey City, NJ across the river from New York City. Since 1983 I was intrigued by Hip Hop and identified with the culture. I started writing graffiti in the early 80’s and continued through the late 90’s. Graffiti gave me an understanding of color, composition, spacing and most importantly visual communication. This understanding & passion evolved into a career in graphic design.
I am self-taught graphic designer. While working for Russell Simmons in the early 90s, I taught myself the basics of applications I would utilize during my long career. For the past 13 years I have operated my own graphic design company, Descript Design. I have worked on many identity, packaging and apparel projects. The nuances of visual language are my specialty. I inspire exceptional performance and foster an inclusive, empowering workplace culture.
A little video I made about my journey here in Portland, Oregon. This week (3/25/21) marks 10 years since I've lived in Portland. I originally made this for the Tom Sachs Nike Product Wear Tester contest but I wasn't selected. It was a great exercise in storytelling and getting more familiar with Adobe Premiere Rush.
